The Lions
Hearing Dogs Project is constantly looking to
assess and put into place the future needs of
the project. We do this to ensure that we
continue to strive to achieve "Worlds Best
Practice" in the training of dogs for the deaf
and hearing-impaired members in our community.
However we
still have physical limitations that effect our
performance.
Our trainers
train our dogs outside where more room is needed
that is available in the sound training house
which has very limited space. In winter the
trainers have to wear oilskins and the dogs get
wet and dirty.
Our sound
training house is cluttered with items for which
there is little storage space. This makes the
centre look untidy and restricts movement. It
also makes a bad impression on the Lions and bus
tours that visit us.
The visits by
bus tours are an important part of making this
project more widely known in the general
community. At present we squeeze 25 people at a
maximum into a small room in the sound training
house. This is uncomfortable and it is very
difficult to show the dog working properly.
For all these
reasons we believe it is time to construct this
hall and take this project to a new level of
excellence in the 21st Century.
