After the
successful completion of intensive specialized
training at the Lions Hearing Dog Inc.
Training Centre, at Verdun in South
Australia, one of our training instructors will
accompany each dog to its new home anywhere in
Australia.
The training
instructor then conducts an on-site
familiarization, bonding and training program
with the dog and hearing-impaired recipient.
The local Lion’s
Club usually sponsors and continues to assess
and monitor the working capabilities of the dog
and the recipient over a 3-month period for
assessment towards full accreditation as a
Hearing Dog.
The obligation to
the new owner is proper care of the dog and
continued maintenance of trained abilities.
Without this
commitment from the owner, the dog cannot be
certified as a Hearing Dog.
