Only people
who appreciate the loyalty and companionship
that a dog provides can benefit from these
services.
Applicants for
Lions Hearing Dogs are assessed for
suitability for requiring a hearing dog and the
ability to care for the dog.
The following
guidelines apply-
They have
a severe hearing loss.
They can
demonstrate a real need for the help of a
Lions Hearing Dog i.e., they live alone or
spend a lot of time alone or with some other
deaf or handicapped person.
They are
physically and financially able to care for
a hearing dog and genuinely like the
animals.
Applicants are
sent an "Application for a Lions Hearing
Dog" questionnaire in which these
essential details will be required. This
questionnaire must be obtained from the Hearing
Dogs Centre, and not through any other source.
This
application form must be filled out
completely by the person making the
application
A medical
report/examination from your Doctor, papers
supplied with application papers.
A recent
hearing test and written report from the
Audiologist.
A personal
reference from someone other than a member
of the family.
A signed
application agreement form.
It is
essential that there is a suitably fenced area
that a dog cannot possibly get through.
It is
absolutely necessary to have this secure area
where the dog can toilet, exercise and just be a
dog for a little while without a chance of it
getting out.
If the
applicant has a job, a Lions Hearing Dog
will not be suitable unless the dog can be at
the workplace with facilities for its comfort.
